Avis W. Dorminey

April 25, 1918 — May 20, 2018

On the morning of Sunday, May 20, 2018, Avis Walker Dorminey, 100, peacefully passed from this life and joined her Lord and Savior in heaven.

Mrs. Dorminey was born on April 25, 1918 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Samuel W. and Janie Fountain Walker. After completing high school in Fitzgerald, married Earnest Lee Dorminey and relocated to Valdosta, Georgia where she lived most of her life. Although she never had children of her own, she loved children and worked many years as a childcare worker before retiring from the Joyce Williams Daycare. Forrest Street United Methodist Church was her church home in Valdosta. Following her husband’s passing, Mrs. Dorminey moved to Warner Robins to be nearer to her family. She wanted so badly to reach 100 years old, and she proudly accomplished that goal three weeks ago. She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church in Warner Robins. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Dorminey was preceded in death by her siblings, Alice Sirmans, Bessie Walker, Claudia Walker, Martha Bond, Faye Griffin, Jack Walker, Levy Walker, Frasier Walker, and Cecil Walker.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her niece, Ann Walker Hamrick (Donnie) of Macon; her nephews, LaDon Walker (Brenda) of Byron and Buddy Dorminey (Mary Helen) of Waycross; and a host of other extended family members.

The funeral service celebrating Mrs. Dorminey’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Cowles officiating. The family will receive friends at McCullough Funeral Home one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Mrs. Dorminey will be laid to rest next to her husband at 3:00 p.m. in Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, Georgia. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 1322 Feagin Mill Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mrs. Dorminey’s arrangements.
