Charlie "Fred" Crook

November 20, 1921 — August 16, 2017

On the morning of Wednesday, August 16, 2017, Fred Crook, 95, passed away peacefully.

Fred was born on November 20, 1921 in Fort Valley, Georgia to the late Charlie B. and Ozella Estella Fulford Crook. On November 4, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. where he served until October 23, 1945. Fred proudly served as a member of the 495th service squadron that heroically fought in the Invasion of Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France, and Central Europe during the European theatre of World War II. He was awarded several medals for his honorable service including the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 bronze stars and the Meritorious Unit Award. Following his military service, he began his career at Robins Air Force Base as a Supply Technician.

Fred had a zest for life and loved being outdoors; he was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. His favorite pastimes included cheering on his favorite team the Atlanta Braves or listening to gospel and country music. However, his greatest joy came from time spent with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred was a member of Evergreen Fellowship Church.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Hazel Eugenia Crook; siblings, John David Crook, Benjamin Franklin Crook, Wynelle Crook Scott, Imogene Crook Eason, Pauline Crook Tondie, Floreace Crook, Ernest Crook, Marvin Crook, Walter Crook; and stepmother, Madeline Smith.

His memory will forever be treasured by his children, James F. Crook (Mary), Floreice Mathis (Leroy), David Crook (Susan); eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and siblings, Margie Dupree (Larry), Mary Avery (Chuck), Pearl Bass (Wayne).

Visitation will be Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2017 in the Chapel of McCullough. Following the service, Fred will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with military honors.

The family would like to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care, and Perry Hospital for the exceptional love and care they provided to Mr. Crook.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Charlie “Fred” Crook to Evergreen Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, 80 Tabor Dr, Warner Robins, GA 31093.
