James Harold Shields

September 3, 1932 — July 20, 2018

Harold Shields, age 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of Friday, July 20, 2018.

Harold was born in Jackson County, Georgia on September 3, 1932, the son of the late James Walter and Essie Lee Coleman Shields. He bravely volunteered to serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Harold was a Crew Chief on the P-38 Lightning Aircraft and was proud to have never lost a pilot. After attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, he honorably discharged from the military and worked in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base where he retired after 35 years of service.

A wonderful family man, Harold always made his family his number one priority. He had a huge heart and loved everyone he met, especially his granddaughters. When he was not with his family or at church, you could be sure to find him reading, or in the outdoors hunting, fishing, or gardening. Shirley Hills Baptist was his church home where he was a member of the Alice Upshaw Sunday School Class. Harold will be greatly missed by his family and church, but the memory of his fidelity and loyalty to God, his family, and the church will remain an inspiration to everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Shields Williamson.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 62 years, Annette Crumley Shields of Warner Robins; sons, James Keith Shields (Sandi) of Byron and Kenneth Wade Shields (Hope Hahn) of Juliette; grandchildren, Erika Shields of Atlanta, Ella Wade Shields of Juliette, Bryan Ellis (Janie) of Los Angeles, California, Rick Ellis (Joye) of Denver, Colorado, and Chase Ellis of Pikeville, Kentucky; great-granddaughter, Zoey Jane Ellis; sisters, Reba Storey of Jefferson and Eloise Archer of Athens; and nieces, nephews, and a big extended family.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 22, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Shirley Hills Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Shirley Hills with Reverend Andy Cook and Joe D. Haselden officiating. Following the service, Harold will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mr. Shields’ arrangements.
