John Trawick Echols

May 28, 1929 — October 22, 2015

After an extended illness, John Trawick Echols of Warner Robins, GA, 86, passed away in the comfort of his home, on October 22, 2015. He was born May 28, 1929 in Spartanburg, SC, and spent his formative years on a farm in Thomaston, GA. He served in the Army Air Corp which became the Air Force shortly before he left to attend college where he graduated from the University of Georgia in 1954 with a Master's Degree in Physics. One of his favorite college memories was riding his motorcycle down the embankment near Stegeman Hall.

After college he moved to Winston Salem where he met his bride of 50 years. John and Maureen Miller wed September 18, 1965. John worked for Bell Labs and at Robins Air Force Base as an Electronic Engineer. He enjoyed woodworking, yardwork and spending time with friends and family. He was a man that always put his family above all else, as well as was sensible and precise with a clever sense of humor. He was not one to express his emotions, but you always knew what he thought and how much he cared.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Julia Miller Echols, his sister Francis Couts, his two brothers Leon Echols, Jr. and Joe Echols. He is survived by his wife Maureen Echols, their three children: Amy Bardash (Martin "Marty"), John T. Echols, Jr. "Jay" (Sonia) and Scott Echols (Maica) and their beloved eight grandchildren, Bryan Bardash, Cameron Bardash, Austin Bardash, John Echols, III, Jordan Echols, Daniel Echols, Isabelle Echols, and Sydney Echols.
