Alishia Verhage

August 7, 1967 — January 10, 2017

On Tuesday, January 10, 2017, 49 year old Alishia Verhage passed away unexpectedly.

Alishia was born at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, in 1967. She grew up in a military family and having moved many times, ultimately graduated from high school in Germany. Following high school she went on to graduate from Mills College in Oakland, California, with a B.S. in Mathematics. Upon graduation she was commissioned as an officer into the United States Air Force where she faithfully served her country as a Communications Officer for seven years, during which time she deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm. She completed her service with the Air Force having attained the rank of Captain. Following her separation from the military, Alishia devoted herself fully and joyfully to the support of her family. She was the consummate military wife, always supportive of her husband in his assignments over the years and she was a loving and dedicated mother to their three children. She was a certified math and science teacher and also tutored children in math. A faithful Christian, she was a member of Perry United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She was also a Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her loving husband of 22 years, Col. John M. Verhage, Warner Robins; her daughters, Machaela Verhage, Atlanta, and Natalie Verhage, Warner Robins; her son, Michael Verhage, also of Warner Robins; her beloved parents, Ret. Col. William Lytle and Myra Parke Lytle of Edmonton, KY; as well as a sister, Cindy McKinney (Matt), also of Edmonton; and her brother, Ric Holder (Vickie), of Wylie, TX; as well as many friends made over the years.

Visitation with Alishia's family will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating Alishia's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Perry United Methodist Church with Dr. Brad Brady officiating.
