FOR MY MOTHER

When I am all alone sometimes
And I have no one but me,
I often close my eyes
And it’s your face that I see.

A face when I was young
That always held a smile;
The face over my crib
When I was a young child.

A face with gentle caring hands
That held me when I was small,
And put my feet on paths of knowledge
That I would need when I grew tall.

Hands that had a loving heart,
One that always understood;
That raised me up from boy to man,
And taught me bad from good.

How can I repay all the things,
For me that you have done;
I can only hope to be like you
To my precious little one.
