Annie M. Mathis

December 3, 1931 — February 6, 2023

Annie M. Mathis, of Warner Robins, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 6, 2023, surrounded with her family’s love and the memories of 91 years well-lived. She was reunited in heaven with her sons, Edward “Boo” Cliett and William “Bubba” Mathis; her grandson, Calvin Jermont Mathis; her parents, Edward and Ambry Neal; her sisters, Lilla McGhee and Jessie Mae Sawyer; her brothers, Sam Neal and George “Duffie” Neal; and her son-in-law, George “Tommy” Howell.

Annie was born on December 3, 1931 in Fort Valley, GA, the place she called home until 1977 when she moved to Warner Robins. Growing up, she attended Allen Chapel CME where she received her primary education and graduated from H.A. Hunt High School. As a young woman, Annie developed a passion for cooking, and after graduation, had the opportunity to become a private cook for Martha Scott and her family. She then began her own cleaning service of which she offered to private families in the area; a few of the families nearest and dearest to her heart were the Ivey, Sevars and Bullock families. In addition to working in private homes, Annie enjoyed serving as a cook for First Baptist Church of Warner Robins and Trinity United Methodist Church for many years.

When Annie wasn’t hard at work with her cleaning and cooking endeavors, you could find her applying her green thumb to her many house plants and worshiping at Warner Robins CME, and most recently, at Agape Outreach Ministries. She enjoyed serving as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Cinderella Chapter 406 and with the American Legion Post 594 Ladies Auxiliary, as well. Annie took pride in helping take care of her grandchildren who have memories of her getting them off to school, tending to them when they got home, and putting them to bed; the children never knew she actually slept until they caught her dozing one time! It was clear that Annie was a busy bee who rarely took a break. Over the years, she tirelessly taught her family the value of hard work, of loving the Lord, and taking care of your loved ones.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Jessie Clark, Shirley Ann Clark, Beverly Lawson, Ambry Mathis, Frances Howell, Jacqueline Mathis and Leslie Mathis, all of Warner Robins, and Clarence Mathis (Madeleine) of Cibolo, TX; stepdaughter, Elnora Long (Jerome) of Triangle, VA; and numerous adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; aunt, Eloise Woods; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Laurie Ivey of CO, a child of the Ivey Family with whom she developed a mother/daughter-like bond.
