Barbara Sue Koger, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, walked into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. She was 86 years old.
Barbara was born in Albertville, Alabama, on June 28, 1933, to the late Thomas B. and Cleo Mattie Smith. She was a career homemaker whose sole purpose was loving her family and serving the Lord. Sandy Valley Baptist was her church home. Barbara loved her church and stayed involved in all capacities she could there; she especially enjoyed volunteering as the church’s librarian.
Very sociable and a joy to be around, Barbara made friends with everyone she met. She was loving and caring, and never failed to light up the room with her smile. Barbara was very active in her granddaughters’ lives and the time she spent with them was the highlight of her day. She loved flowers and never passed up an opportunity to dance. Barbara also enjoyed going for walks; seeing the wildlife in her backyard was so exciting and peaceful to her.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry H. West; son, Ronnie West; daughter-in-law, Ute Regina West; and eight siblings (Barbara was the last of nine to pass away).
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 46 years, Bobby Koger; children, Dee McLure (Franklin) and Jeffrey B. West; grandchildren, Heather Adams (Andy), Courtney McLure, and Christopher West; great-grandson, Jett Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to precautionary guidelines in place currently, Barbara’s family will be honoring her privately with a graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2020.
McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
