Bennie G. Mccullough

December 26, 1924 — November 30, 2017

On the evening of Thursday, November 30, 2017, Bennie McCullough, went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was 92 years old.

Bennie was born to the late Benjamin and Mary Couch McCullough on December 26, 1924, in Williamson, Georgia. He excelled in academics as well as sports especially baseball, basketball, and track at Zebulon High School. After graduation, Bennie joined the United States Marine Corp where he was quickly promoted to the rank of Tech Sergeant. He proudly served in the Pacific Theatre of World War II and took part in the Battle of Iwo Jima. During this time, Bennie was the Marine boxing champion for his weight class in the Pacific Division.

Following his active duty service, Bennie met and married Margaret Elizabeth Putnam McCullough. Together they moved to Atlanta where he began his career as a foreman for Delta Air Lines in the Ignition Component Department. In 1979, Bennie retired from Delta and his wife, Margaret passed away after a long battle with cancer. He later married Catherine Edwards McCullough and moved to Dalton, Georgia where they lived until her passing in 1989. Eventually, Bennie married Maude Parker McCullough and together they moved to Naples, Florida where they enjoyed their retirement until 2011 when they decided to move back to Dalton, Georgia. A jack of all trades, he could build or repair almost anything, including building his home in Dalton. Bennie always enjoyed being outdoors and working in his yard. However, his greatest joy came from time spent with his beloved family. He was of the Baptist faith.

Bennie was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Connell and brother, Doyle McCullough.
