Bettie Jo (Taylor) Hughes

June 10, 1927 — October 28, 2012

Bettie Jo (Taylor) Hughes died in grace, at home, in Warner Robins, GA; family at her side on 28 Oct 2012. She is peacefully sheltered in God's arms joining her beloved Father, Mother, and brother; Dewey, Hettie and Wilford Taylor. She patiently awaits the arrival of those she left on this earth; her husband, Tom; daughter, Marijo, sons, Neil and Mark; and sister, Patsy Ann.

Her remembrance and burial were private. Please, in lieu of flowers, in her memory, make donations to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088, whose care provided deep comfort, both to her and her family.

Bettie, born 10 Jun 1927 in Salem, attended the local schools, (where she met Tom in the second grade) graduating from Salem High School in 1946. She attended St. Joseph Hospital University, Louisville, Kentucky, receiving a Registered Nursing degree in 1949.

Reuniting with Thomas Hughes, post WWII; they married in 1949, embarking on a military career that saw them travel throughout the United States and Europe living in several states, as well as Canada, France and Spain, through the 1950s into the 1970s.

In retirement, they moved back to Salem where she became very active in the local community. She was an artisan and created many beautiful pieces with quilting and spinner's/weaver's guilds. She was also very active with her high school (Class of '46) reunion, helping to plan and organize activities. She was instrumental in the development of Salem's 'Old Settlers Days' where she also participated as a paper maker and in demonstrating spinning/weaving. Interested in history and antiques, she operated a small antique shop for many years.

Our lives on the earthly plain are precious and unknown. Each day is a discovery about who we are and what God's plan is. Bettie Jo Taylor Hughes now knows those answers, as will we all in our own times. With God's blessings, may she rest with peace. Her life will be remembered and treasured with great love.
