Betty Jean Cruz

August 24, 1935 — January 6, 2021

Betty Jean Cruz, 85, joined her beloved husband, Manuel Cruz in Heaven, on the morning of Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

Betty was born in Dodge County, Georgia, on August 24, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Robert Gray and Fannie Mae Dykes. She retired from the Station A Post Office in Centerville and was a devoted member of Central Baptist Church. Betty enjoyed being outside on the front porch with a cup of coffee and admiring her garden. She was a gardening enthusiast and won ‘Yard of the Month’ at one time. Betty was also skilled in making wood crafts, dolls, and doll clothes. She was excellent in the kitchen, as well, and everyone loved her cooking.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jeff Dykes and Barbara Alcorn.

Those left to cherish Betty’s memory are her loving children, Marcia Sledge (Lonnie) of Fort Valley, Sabrena Conine (Don) of St. Louis, Missouri and Greg Weeks of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Derek, Candise, Ashley, Rob, Tiffini, Alan-Michael and Lonna; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Johnny Dykes (Ellene); and sister, Deborah Barfield.

A private funeral service for Betty’s family will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens next to her husband, Manuel.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
