Vietnam Veteran, Chuck Woods, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the age of 87. He was born on January 10, 1934 in Coal Valley, AL, the son of the late G.E. and Maude Myers Woods. Chuck grew up in Coal Valley and graduated with West End High School’s Class of 1952 in Birmingham. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served a total of six tours in Vietnam with 168 combat missions as a tail gunner for the B-52’s under his belt. When he was flying a mission in Vietnam, two B-52’s lost their instruments and from his plane, Chuck successfully assisted them to their target and back to base. For this, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal. Also, while in the military, Chuck proudly received an Associate’s Degree in Child Psychology from Florida State University. In June of 1977, he retired with 26 and a half years of service to his country having attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.

Following his time in the military, Chuck was a successful realtor for 35 years, most of this time was with Golden Key Realty in Warner Robins. He truly loved the real estate industry and twice served as President of the Central Georgia Board of Realtors. Chuck was also a longtime, faithful member of Southside Baptist Church and of the Masonic Tyrian Lodge #111. With honor, he furthered his journey with the Masons as he joined the Scottish Rite and served a term as a Worshipful Master for the Tyrian Lodge #111. He recently earned his 50 Year Apron, as well. On top of Chuck’s life accomplishments and contributions, he was a superb husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and an avid Alabama Football fan, ROLL TIDE!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steve Woods; his sisters, Maudine, Ellette, Jeanette, Avis; and brother, G.C. Woods.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen Woods of Bonaire; his children, Rebecca Cochran (Doug) of Warner Robins and Dennis Woods (Dawn) of Bolingbroke; grandchildren, Joshua Woods, Shane Cochran, Alyssa Riden (Anthony), James Robert Van Bibber (Lori) and Rachel Woods; step-grandchildren, Tyler Buell (Makeya), Justin Buell (Katelyn) and Kanlie Buell; great-grandchildren, Aiden Van Bibber, Will Van Bibber, Noah Buell, Jonah Buell, James Buell, Ayanna Brown, Jaxon Woods and Beau Riden; and siblings, Ruth Farris and James A.
