Cmsgt Heber H. Wilson, Usaf (Ret.)

Heber H. Wilson, 79, entered into rest on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Heart of Georgia Inpatient Hospice. He was predeceased by his parents, Oliver Henderson Wilson and Gertrude Walker Wilson; siblings, Christopher Wilson, Mildred Kyser, Betty Sims, Velda Wilson, William Wilson and Tommy Wilson.

Chief Wilson was born on July 14, 1929 in Winnsboro, South Carolina. On July 14, 1950, he married his sweetheart, Geraldine "Gerri" Wilson. He proudly served his country initially in the South Carolina Army National Guard from January to November 1950, when he began a thirty-year distinguished career in the U. S. Air Force. By his retirement, he had achieved the highest rank an enlisted man could attain in the U. S. Air Force, had many worldwide assignments and had participated in such milestone events as the Cuban Missile Crisis, Operation Baby Lift and the POW Homecoming among others. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with One Device, the Joint Commendation Medal, the USAF Commendation with One Device, the USAF Presidential Unit Citation, the USAF Outstanding Unit Award with Two Devices, the USAF Good Conduct Medal with Four Knots, the National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the USAF Overseas Service Short Tour Ribbon, the USAF Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon, the USAF Longevity Service Ribbon with Six Devices, the USAF Small Arms Expert Ribbon, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation with One Bronze Star, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm and the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. He attended Gateway Fellowship Church of God, was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and loved to play golf.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of fifty-eight and a half years, Geraldine "Gerri" Wilson, Warner Robins; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Martin Kaplan, Tampa, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Lt. Col. Jeffrey H. and Paige Wilson, Las Vegas, Nevada; granddaughters, Elizabeth Paige and Claire Isabella Wilson, Las Vegas, Nevada; and brother, Perry O. Wilson, North Carolina.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 20, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Richard Azbell, Martin Kaplan and the Reverend Timothy L. Kelly will officiate. The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Heart Of Georgia Inpatient Hospice, 120 Morningside Drive, Perry GA 31069, or Gateway Fellowship Church of God, 6531 Skipper Road, Macon GA 31216 or the Alzheimer's Association, 277 Martin Luther King Boulevard, Suite 201, Macon GA 31201-3498.
