Cmsgt. Jack Henry Steed, Usaf (Ret.)

Jack Henry Steed passed from this life on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. Warner Robins was his beloved home for 50 years.
Jack was born in High Point, North Carolina, on August 24, 1930, to Benjamin Franklin Steed and Mary Dowdy Steed, both predeceased him. His loving wife of 59 years, Betsy Chernault Steed of High Point, North Carolina; and his grandson, Gregory Pike, also predeceased him.

Jack is survived by his devoted daughters, Angie Kivett (Charles) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Cynthia Hektner (Mark) of Jupiter, Florida, and Mary Reese of Warner Robins; as well as four grandchildren, Elizabeth Karnosky, Whitney Sides, Ashley Le and Hunter Hektner; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Steed Schlegel of Castle Hayne, North Carolina; nephew and niece, Joel Schlegel (Anne) and Victoria Schlegel Sowers, all of Castle Hayne, North Carolina; and Karol Barnes, beloved friend of Macon, Georgia.

In his youth, Jack achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, which prepared him for his 33 years of service in the United States Air Force. Jack retired as the Senior Chief Master Sergeant of his unit. His numerous military awards earned included the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. Jack retired from the Warner Robins Logistics Center as the Command Chief Master Sergeant, the first to have served in that capacity. Subsequent to his retirement from the Air Force, Jack served as the Vice President of Marketing for Bank South and a Director at Bank of America. Following those positions, Jack joined Nichols Cauley & Associates and was in charge of business development. Jack was reluctantly forced into retirement while battling Parkinson’s Disease, a disease he fiercely fought until the end of his days.

With a love for his country and his community, Jack served in many organizations to include the Air Force Association, Museum of Aviation, Optimists Club, Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce, Joint Stars Hall of Fame, Civitan Club, United Way—Lifetime Achievement Award section, and was on the Keep Warner Robins Beautiful Commission. Jack was also a founding member of the Houston County Volunteer Medical Clinic and a past President of the Rotary Club. A lifelong Christian, Jack served many people in many areas of life. He followed the example of his Savior and Lord, Jesus.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 South Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022, at the Houston Lake Presbyterian Church, 101 O’Brien Drive, Kathleen, GA 31049. Following his service, Jack will be laid to rest at 12:00 p.m. in Andersonville National Cemetery, 760 POW Road, Andersonville, GA 31711.

Jack’s family suggests donations be made in Jack's honor to either his faith home the Houston Lake Presbyterian Church, 101 O’Brien Drive, Kathleen, GA 31049; or to either of Jack’s favorite service organizations, the Air Force Association (Air and Space Forces Association) 1501 Langston Blvd., Ste. #400, Arlington, VA 22209, ATTN Development; or the United Way (Central Georgia), 277 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Ste 301, Macon, Georgia 31201.
