Cmsgt. Omer Neal Hight, Usaf (Ret.)

February 12, 1936 — November 15, 2020

Chief MSgt. Omer Neal Hight, USAF (Ret.) passed away November 15, 2020. He was 84 years old. Born in Charmco, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Olin and Florence Hight. In addition to his parents, Omer was the widower of Barbara Burdiss Hight to whom he was married for more than 50 years. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jessie and James Hight, and son, Russell Hight.

Omer joined the United States Air Force on June 10, 1954. He retired on June 30, 1980. He went from Airman 3rd class to a chief master sergeant in 26 years. His last job speciality was a maintenance manager and his long, distinguished career was spent in aircraft maintenance. He earned a Bronze Star Medal with device and served in the Vietnam War. His other accolades from the military include a Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Outstanding Unit Award with seven devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with V Device, a National Defense Service Medal, a Noncommissioned Officers Academy graduate ribbon, and an Army Good Conduct Medal. Omer spent a year in Thailand and a year and a half serving in Guam. After he retired from the Air Force, Omer was the hospital administrator for Dublin and Milledgeville.

In his spare time, Omer was an avid coin collector and was a member of the Coin Club. If there was a coin show in the near vicinity, Omer was in attendance. In addition, he also loved firearms and attending gun shows. He was passionate about his country and serving his country. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was the senior vice commander in 2012. He was a member of the American Legion, the Air Force Sergeants Association, and the Air Force Association.

Omer leaves behind his loving daughter, Lynn Mulford, his grandchildren, Missy McNeal, Shannon McNeal, Kacey Vance, Bruce Vance, Matthew Hight, and Emily Hight; and great grandchildren, Emmy, Presley, Clayton, Andrew, Braxton, and Aubreigh.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2020 at the chapel at McCullough Funeral Home with burial to be held at Andersonville National Cemetery after the service.
