Cpo James Wesley Middlebrooks, Usn (Ret.)

December 26, 1929 — April 29, 2003

CPO James Wesley Middlebrooks, USN (Ret.), 73, died Monday, April 28, 2003. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 10, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1544, Warner Robins, GA 31099 or to the American Diabetes Association, One Corporate Square, Suite 127, Atlanta, GA 30329.

A native of Byromville, GA, CPO Middlebrooks enjoyed seeing the world. Before retiring from the United States Navy, he served on the USS Cadmus, USS Mercer, USS Northampton, USS Tarawa, and USS Wright. He had been the Director of the Naval Security Group-Atlantic, in Norfolk, VA. Other duty stations included Naples, Italy; Washington D.C.; Adak, Alaska; Kamiseya, Japan; and Cyprus.

CPO Middlebrooks was a member of the Fleet Reserve, the Smokey Mountain Chapter of the United States Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association, Audie Murphy Chapter of the American Legion, NARFE, and the Macon Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the Fenton Art Glass Collectors of America and the Cordele Ballroom Dance Club. He was of the Methodist faith. His parents, George and Elizabeth Raper Middlebrooks; brother, Alfred Middlebrooks; and first wife, Frances Middlebrooks, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne L. Middlebrooks, Warner Robins; four sons, Alan Middlebrooks (Sonia), Marietta, GA; Kenneth Middlebrooks (Kathy), Evans, GA; Donald Middlebrooks (Kim), Leesburg, GA; and Geoffrey Middlebrooks (Joni), Holly Springs, NC; two daughters, Ann Middlebrooks Fuller (Earl), Albany, GA; and Donna Middlebrooks Navarre (Chris), Cary, NC; brother, Lamar Middlebrooks, Warner Robins; sister, Laverne Middlebrooks McCormick (Robert), Fort Valley; sister-in-law, Jean Middlebrooks, Macon; stepchildren, Patricia Maguire Kelley (Michael), Dahlonega, GA; Michael Maguire (Pam), Alexander, NC; and Maureen Maguire Keating (Andrew), Longwood, FL; and 20 grandchildren.

McCullough Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
