On the morning of Thursday, May 6, 2021, Catherine W. Sweigart, 94, joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven.
The daughter of the late Lewis and Katie Kelly Wood, Catherine was born in Clopton, Alabama, on August 5, 1926. She was raised in Ideal, Georgia. After graduating from Ideal High School, she moved to Macon, Georgia, to work for the telephone company. It was there that she met her husband, Russell J. Sweigart, who was stationed at Cochran Field. As a military family, they lived in Rapid City, South Dakota; Abilene, Texas; and Robins Air Force Base. They made Warner Robins their permanent residence in 1961. Catherine became a devoted member of Northside Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was the head of the nursery department for 30 years, sang in the Mellow Tone Choir, and was part of the Faith Sunday School Class for over 47 years. Never idle, Catherine worked tirelessly and was known for her delicious southern cooking in which she prepared for family, friends, elders, and fellow church members.
In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Jay Sweigart; brothers, Charles Wood and Harry Wood; and sisters, Rebecca Pinckney and Jean Law.
Her precious memory will forever be treasured by her daughters, Kay Sweigart and Jan Hamil (Gary), all of Warner Robins; son, Randy Sweigart (Mona) of Lillington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Emily Hamil, Monica Ruiz, and Brett Sweigart; great grandchildren, Jessica and Austin Ruiz; brother, Max Wood (Luann) of Montezuma; sister-in-law, Reba Sweigart of Pennsylvania; as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 9, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Catherine’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.
