Charles "Chuck" V. Sprayberry

February 22, 1937 — November 2, 2004

Charles “Chuck” V. Sprayberry, 67, sailed his final journey after an extended fight with lung cancer, on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at his home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 5, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA. Visitation will be Thursday, November 4 from 7 until 9 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Middle Georgia Honor Guard, 90 American Legion Post 172, Warner Robins, GA 31088.

Mr. Sprayberry was born in Atlanta, GA. He enjoyed life and was a life member of VFW Post 6605, Warner Robins, GA, a member of the MOC #13 of Warner Robins, a member of the American Legion #172, 40/8, Fleet Reserve and the Elk’s Club. In 1973, he retired from the U.S. Navy POIC with 20 years of service on the Ranger and USS Constellation (CVA-64.) He worked for Rowe Juke Box Co. after he retired from the Navy. Mr. Sprayberry also owned and operated Sprayberry Trucking Co. out of Atlanta, Macon and LaGrange, then retired from Civil Service at Robins AFB as an electrician with the C130 and C141, after 14 years of service.

Mr. Sprayberry received two Navy Achievement Meritoreous Service Medals while serving on USS Ranger CVA-61. He was also “Top Gun of the Month” while serving on the Ranger during 1969-1970, Vietnam. He received three Good Conducts, Vietnam Service and National Defense Medals. He was very active in the local VFW Post, served as Canteen Manager and Senior Vice President for two years, until his illness caused him to resign. He was a devoted friend and father and lived life to the fullest. His parents, Paul and Eva Sprayberry and daughter, Sharon Sprayberry, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his devoted companion, Renee’ Ann Weaver, Warner Robins; daughters, Dawn Courson and Amanda Lossiah, Gray, GA; brothers, Robert Sprayberry, Lagrange, GA and Gary Sprayberry, Porterdale, GA; uncles, Richard Murphy, Warner Robins, GA and Horace Murphy, Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Pallbearers will be from the Middle Georgia Honor Guard.
