Charles E. Hamby

November 20, 1911 — December 21, 2004

Charles E. Hamby, 93, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 after declining health. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 24, 2004 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment, a private burial for family only, following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at McCullough Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Second Baptist Church Building Fund, 2504 Moody Rd, Warner Robins 31088 or to the donor’s favorite charity.

Mr. Hamby was born in Marietta, GA and was retired from Robins Air Force Base after 30 years of service. He was a supervisor in Avionics Quality Control. He was a member of Second Baptist Church since 1951 and the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class, where he also was a former teacher. He was one of the oldest members at Second Baptist Church, and former member of NARFE. He also was an avid reader of non-fiction books, an avid gardner, and enjoyed five mile walks. He was a designer of bedspreads for “Gone with the Wind.” He and his wife did extensive research on their family genealogy together. His wife of 58 years, Florence Griggs Hamby; parents, Edgar and Mattie Hamby, and sister, Martha Dawson Hamby preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughter, Anne Phillips (Kenny), Warner Robins; son, Bill Hamby (Suzy), Alturas, CA; Four grandchildren, Michael Lee Hamby, Rhome, TX, Corey Jay Hamby, San Francisco, CA, Melanie Paige Phillips, Casey Kenneth Phillips, Warner Robins; One great grandchild, Eleni Anne Phillips, a special cousin, Betty Lester (Stanley), Warner Robins; brothers-in-law, Carl L. Griggs and Robert L. Griggs, Dalton, GA.
