Charles L. Combs

Charles Combs, 89, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 27, 2016.

Charles was born on April 6, 1926 in Clayhole, Kentucky to the late Nathan and Eva Landrum Combs. He graduated from Breathitt County High School. With great honor and pride he served in the United States Army during World War II. His deployments were in both the Philippines and Japan as a Technician Fifth Grade Medic.

In the years following his military service, Charles continued his education at Lee's Junior College in Jackson, Kentucky and then Morehead State College in Morehead, Kentucky where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education. He began his career as Principal of Breathitt County Schools which consisted of; Marie Roberts Elementary, Caney Consolidated School, and Rousseau Elementary. In 1967, he and his family relocated to Warner Robins, Georgia, where he was offered the position as Superintendent of Robins Air Force Base School System. While in this position, he attended the University of Georgia from which he received his Master's Degree and his 6 year degree in Education.

Charles was a member of Central Baptist church where he served as a Deacon and on the deposition and personnel committees. Charles was also a member of the Exchange and Kiwanis clubs; he enjoyed serving as president of both clubs for a short time. However his greatest joy was found in family and most particularly in being an adoring "PaPa" to his four beloved grandchildren and three beloved great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Suzie, Georgia, Gordon, and Edward Combs.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 69 years, Juanita Lovely Combs of Warner Robins; children, William H. Combs of Warner Robins; Annette Combs-Smith of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Bonita J. "Nicki" Combs of Lexington, Georgia; grandchildren, Chris Smith, Lauren Smith-Herren, Megan Combs, Jacob L. Combs; great-grandchildren, Caroline Combs, Madison Combs, Logan Herren; and siblings, Reverend Harold P. Combs and Edith Meadows.

Visitation with Charles's family will be Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Central Baptist Church. A private comitial service will follow, where Charles will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.

Memorials may be given in memory of Charles L. Combs to the Charity of Donor's Choice or to Central Baptist Church, 1120 Lake Joy Rd, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
