Charles Thomas "Chuck" Hughey

May 23, 1941 — October 17, 2022

A prominent leader, servant, and longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church of Warner Robins, Charles Thomas Hughey joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in Heaven on the morning of Monday, October 17, 2022.


Born on May 23, 1941, in Gaffney, South Carolina, Charles was the son of the late Harold Thomas and Virginia May McSwain Hughey. He grew up in Gaffney, where he graduated from Gaffney Senior High School in 1958. After high school, Charles proudly served his country from 1959 until 1965 in the United States Air Force. He later worked on Robins Air Force Base for a number of years in Logistics Management until his retirement in 1995. Throughout his career, Charles continued his education and earned a Master’s Degree from Georgia College and State University with Science in Administration as his field of study. He also earned a Biblical Teaching Certificate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. After his retirement, Charles worked for a short time at various companies including the local Christian bookstore, Middle Georgia Probation, as well as the International City Golf Course.


A man of God, Charles served his church as Deacon Chairman. He was given the honorary title of Deacon Emeritus for his 36 years of dedicated service. An avid reader, Charles enjoyed reading many books, his favorite of course, being the Bible. He was passionate about sports and coached the women’s softball team at church. He also loved playing golf and watching college football. All will remember Charles as a godly man who loved his family and served others. He will be truly missed by all that were blessed enough to have known him.


In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Hughey; and granddaughter, Leigh Anne Hise.


His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 59 years, Janice Coleman Hughey of Warner Robins; children, Deborah Hughey Pope (Lee) of Centerville and Susan Hughey Silverstruck (James) of Kathleen; grandchildren, Joshua Alan Pope, Michael James Silverstruck (Nichole), Madison Brooke Silverstruck, Lauren Michelle Silverstruck; grandson-in-law, Lewis Hise; great-granddaughter, Anna Hise; siblings, Roger Hughey (Martha) of Gaffney, South Carolina, Lisa Rollins (Doyle) of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Gwen Hughey of Taylors, South Carolina; as well as several nieces and nephews.


Visitation with Charles Thomas Hughey will be Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Warner Robins. A funeral service celebrating his life well lived will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Charles Thomas Hughey will be privately laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.


The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Charles Thomas Hughey to First Baptist Church of Warner Robins, 1135 Watson Blvd., Warner Robins, Georgia 31093.
