Col. Richard "Dick" Carl Bexten, Usaf (Ret.)

Richard "Dick" Carl Bexten, 82, entered into rest on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, while a patient at the Heart of Georgia Hospice in Perry, Georgia.

Dick was a long time resident of Texas, born on January 9, 1932 to the late Carl Wendell and Greta McKenzie Bexten. Dick graduated from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri in 1953 and was a member the Phi Gamma Delta Social Fraternity. He went on to earn his Juris Doctorate Degree from Southern Methodist University where he was a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force as a Staff Judge Advocate until retiring in 1990 as a Colonel. Immediately following his retirement from the Air Force he became the Executive Director of the Houston Drug Action Council (HODAC) from which he retired in 2000. HODAC had many accomplishments while Dick was there including The Gateway Cottage, Teen Headquarters and The Victim's Assistance Program to name a few.

A tireless servant of the communities he lived in, Dick was a member of several organizations including: Warner Robins Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, YMCA Board of Directors, Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce where he served as a director, Warner Robins Rotary Club where he was a past secretary, and he served on the board for the Hospital Authority of Houston County, Georgia. He was a lifelong member of Hillcrest Masonic Lodge #1318 in Dallas, Texas and Texas Scottish Rite Bodies (32nd Degree Mason).

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Keith Wendell Bexten.

Dick's memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Judy Stanton Bexten, daughter, Jacqueline McKenzie Lankford and granddaughter, Avery McKenzie Lankford, all of Warner Robins; two nieces and their families: Jane Niedorf and her children, Patrick Niedorf and his son, Aiden, Ben Niedorf, Becky Davis and her husband, Richard and their children, Charlotte, Chloe and Johnny, Kelly Niedorf, all from San Antonio, Texas; Beth Wilbanks and her husband, Dr. Robert D. Wilbanks and their children, Haley, Grace and Seth, of Orange, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at The Farmhouse, located behind the funeral home. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be given In Memory of Richard Carl Bexten to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
