Colonel Rueben James Mcghee

May 16, 1946 — October 18, 2021

A True Servant - Rueben James McGhee was born on May 16, 1946 in Perry, GA to the late Eddie Lee McGhee, Sr and the late Minnie Arnold McGhee. At an early age, Rueben accepted Christ in his life and joined Shiloh Baptist Church, Henderson, GA.

Rueben attended Houston County Training School and went on to graduate from Perry High School in 1966. Upon graduating from high school, Rueben’s desire to be a State Trooper led him to join the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. He had a passion for helping and serving others. During his 40-year career (January 1973 – March 2013), he rose from the rank of Private, Patrol to Colonel, and Chief Administrator within the divisions of the department.

On Monday, October 18, 2021, Colonel Rueben James McGhee completed his mission and peacefully transitioned into the arms of the Lord. The power and strength of his love were special to those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Lee McGhee, Sr and Minnie Arnold McGhee; and his brother, Eddie Lee McGhee, Jr (the late Ruth McGhee).

Rueben loved his family and friends dearly. Those who knew him best knew he loved to make you laugh talking about the good old days and cars. His memory will always be cherished by his one loving and devoted daughter, Tammy L. Kelly (Algernon) of Bonaire, GA; two loving grandsons: Ryan J. McGhee-Coleman (Aisha) of Grovetown, GA and Cassius R. Wilson of Bonaire, GA; two great-grandsons: Tristen J. McGhee-Coleman and Alijah L. McGhee Coleman and one great-granddaughter: Ryanne J. McGhee-Coleman all of Grovetown, GA; stepmother, Marie McGhee of Orlando, FL; a devoted companion and friend, Thelma J. Williams of Perry, GA; two sisters: Luell Williams (the late Eddie Mac Williams) of Henderson, GA and Minnie Green (Bobby) of Linden, NJ; four aunts: Ester Mae Davis (the late Willie C. Davis) and Janie Mae McGhee, both of Henderson, GA, and Rosa Bell Davis and Annie Mae Davis, both of Perry, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
