Cpl. Charles Raymond Ryals, Us Army

September 19, 1920 — October 2, 2016

Charles Raymond Ryals, 96, of Warner Robins, entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at his home surrounded by family and caregivers.

Raymond, the son of John Thomas and Annie Clyde Mathews Ryals, was born on September 19, 1920, and raised along with two brothers and two sisters on the Houston County farm that belonged to his family since the 1830's. He graduated from Perry High School in 1937.

Raymond served his country honorably during World War II serving as a Military Policeman at Fort Benning in Columbus. After the war he worked on Robins AFB in the Propeller Maintenance Division, commonly called the "Prop Shop," until he retired in 1975.

He loved working on cars and hunting doves and quail with his brothers and nephews. Raymond, a loving husband, brother and uncle, was never blessed with children. However, he cherished the children of other family members and friends and treated them as his own. He was fortunate to have four generations to call him uncle.

He is survived by his nephews, John (Ann) and Jimmy Ryals of Warner Robins, and niece, Sandra Strickland (Neil) of Brunswick. His great nephews are John S. Ryals, Jr., James W. Ryals and Hal Rape (Cassie) of Warner Robins, and great nieces are Ashley Pierce (Joey) of Byron, Cori Strickland Jernigan (John) and Joni Crane, both of Brunswick. He is also survived by great-great nephews, Westin and Wesley, and six great-great nieces, Shelby, Tessa, Maddie, Mary Jane, Kelly and Mary Ryals. In addition, there are three great-great-greats, Hayden, Masie and Kimsie.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his wife the former Doris Moore; his brothers Marvin Ryals of Orlando, FL and Frank Ryals of Warner Robins; his sisters, Katherine Ryals of Warner Robins, Mary Rape of Brunswick; nephews, Jay Raymond Ryals of Warner Robins, Terry Rape of Brunswick, and great niece Kayce Strickland Russell of St. Simons Island.

As a long time active member of Avondale Baptist Church in Bibb County, Raymond loved his church and his church family. He was the oldest member of the congregation.

The family would like to thank his devoted and loving caregivers who took such good care of Raymond during the last few years of his life.

Visitation with Raymond's family will be Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.
