Daniel Guy Stone

January 13, 1913 — May 9, 2010

Daniel Guy Stone, 97, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2010.

Mr. Stone was born on January 13, 1913, in Boyer, West Virginia, and was a retired laborer at Howe's Leather Company. With great pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army and later discharged as a Corporal. In 1942, he was an 82nd Infantry Division infantryman when the unit became the 82nd Airborne (All American) Division. When the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles) was formed, he became a glider infantryman. Later he became a 50 caliber machine gun squad leader. He landed in the first wave on D-Day and set up his gun to protect the obstacle demolition teams and infantry landings for five days. For most of the remainder of World War II he was attached to the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (Band of Brothers Regiment) Combat Team. He received the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and participated in the Battle of the Bulge, Hell's Highway, and other battles. He was very strong but was always gentle and sweet of presence and believed in turning the other check. He was preceded in death by his parents, Scott Stone and Lela Mae Keller Stone.

His warm smile and pretty blue eyes will be missed by his loving wife, Margaret Stone; son, Daniel Stone; granddaughters, Amanda and Stacy Stone; and many friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 13, 2010, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2010, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Reverend Mike Slade officiating. Entombment will follow at Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
