Daniel Xin Long Thompson

December 14, 2011 — October 28, 2015

Daniel Thompson, the 3½ year old son of Steve and Sheila Thompson of Hawkinsville, entered into Heaven on Wednesday, October 28, at Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Daniel's journey in this world began on December 14, 2011, when he was born in Xin Yu City, China. As an infant, he was abandoned outside a factory and then shuffled between two orphanages and foster care. This past summer, however, Daniel's world was forever changed when his new family, including three new siblings, traveled to China to bring him to his forever home here in America.

His arrival brought many things, some frightening as well as much that was exciting and joyful. Immediately upon their return home, Daniel began treatment for a serious heart condition. Even though challenging and perhaps confusing for a child, Daniel's bright spirit and positive outlook prevailed every step of the way. His sweet nature made a positive impact on everyone around him and it is certain that while brief, his time here made a difference in the lives of those he touched.

Even while struggling with health issues, he flourished in his new home and soaked up the culture like a sponge. Having come from a setting in which on many days he was allowed only two glasses of water and little personal interaction, he delighted in being part of a big happy home with love, laughter, and constant attention. Like many little boys he found fascination with cars and trains. He loved to eat nachos and embraced his Christian faith, often reminding his family it was time to say grace before meals. He was learning the language quickly and finding joy in each day.

In addition to his parents, Daniel's memory will be treasured by his adoring siblings: brother, Deven Thompson; sisters, Daniela and Destiny Thompson; maternal grandparents, Marvin and Gwendolyn Young, Columbus, OH; paternal grandparents, Robert and Marcy Thompson, Boxford, MA; maternal great-grandparents, Clyde and Ester Young, Reynoldsburg, OH; aunts and uncles, Joyce and Norm Clark and Jennifer and Dave Miles; and cousins, Michele McDougal and Chris, Rachel, and Hannah Miles.

A celebration of Daniel's sweet life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015 in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. His family will visit with friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Following the services, Daniel will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery. The family requests that friends wear either Minion themed or yellow clothing to the service.

The entire Thompson family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to both their church family at Second Baptist Church for their love, support and prayers during this time and also to the dedicated staff at Egleston Children's Hospital for the excellent care they provided to Daniel and the whole family during his time there.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Daniel's memory to either www.littleheartsmedical.org or Upward Soccer Ministries at Second Baptist Church, 2504 Moody Road, Warner Robins, Georgia, 31088 or Ronald McDonald House, 795 Gatewood Rd NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30329.
