David Coody, 62, died on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at his residence after winning the battle with cancer. He fought hard with complications of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife, Susan during his three-year battle.
David was born on February 21, 1954 in Hawkinsville, Georgia to the late Howard and Ida Mae Coody and was the youngest of nine children. A 1973 graduate of Hawkinsville High School, he loved his country and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1973 until 1976 on the U.S.S. John King during the Vietnam War. Mr. Coody continued with the Naval Reserve after his discharge and was employed at Robins Air Force Base with the Air Force and Defense Information Systems Agency until his retirement in 2009. In his retirement years, he continued with the business he was so very proud of, Coody Electric, and also contracted with Robins Air Force Base.
He enjoyed family time, fishing, and hunting with his daughter, Amanda and his brother, Olin. David enjoyed the beauty of nature, wild life, riding dirt roads, NCIS and Family Feud, chocolate, and ice cream. Anyone who met David will never forget his passion for helping others, family, friends, or strangers and his loyalty, faithfulness, willingness and dedication to help anyone at any time.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Mitchell Coody and John Ellis Coody; and sister, Hazel Laverne Coody Wynne.
David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan Coody of Bonaire; daughters, Joni Harridge (David) and Amanda Kay Coody, both of Bonaire; grandchildren, Corey, Chase, Steven, and Emilee, all of Bonaire; brothers, Albert Coody of Warner Robins and Olin Coody (Barbara) of Cochran; sisters, Evelyn Smith (Peyton) of Columbus, Linda Henderson of Albany, and Sheryl Graham (Jimmy) of Dudley; many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces-and-nephews; and his beloved pets, Woofie Cat and granddog, Abby Girl.
