Debra Sullivan Hopkins

April 8, 1956 — November 12, 2022

Debra Sullivan Hopkins, 66, passed away at home on the morning of Saturday, November 12, 2022.

Born in Macon, GA on April 8, 1956, Debra was the third daughter to Betty Stallworth Sullivan and the late Arthur Eugene Sullivan, Jr. She grew up in Houston County where she was baptized as a child at First Baptist Church of Centerville. Debra loved this land and was proud to have purchased adjoining land where she lived.

Debra was a graduate of Northside High School where she played clarinet and was a majorette in the Blue Wind Band. Her classmates will remember her in the role of Daisy Mae in the Little Abner Production directed by Ray Horne. As a young woman, Debra traveled to Brussels, Amsterdam and Paris with her brother and sister. She had a passion for art and music; Monet was her favorite artist and E.E. Cummings her favorite poet. Debra also enjoyed reminiscing about concerts she attended, especially those of Prince and U2.

A hard worker, Debra instilled a strong work ethic in her children. She loved gardening and flowers; Jean and Hall Florist employed her as a floral designer where she worked for many years. Debra was known in the Middle Georgia area for her beautiful, distinctive floral design work. More recently, she was employed by Vemo Auto Auctions. In her spare time, Debra volunteered at the Museum of Aviation. When she wasn’t working or volunteering, you could find her delighting in being ‘Hop’ to her grandchildren, all of whom she doted on with a smile.

Debra is survived by her children, Sullivan and Leslie Hopkins of Flowery Branch, Sarah and Cody Dorris and Skylar Hopkins, all of Greenbrier, TN and Jason Grimes, who she considered her own; grandchildren, Macy “Sweetie” Martin, Kayden Hopkins, Carson and Courtlyn Hopkins and baby girl, Carter Dorris, who will be born in May; mother, Betty Stallworth Sullivan; siblings, BettyJo Wade (Frank) of Peach County, Mary Ann Long (Eddie) of Macon, Denise Sullivan of Houston County, Alethea Haight (Jeff) of Sugar Hill and Arthur Sullivan (Erin) of Warner Robins; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends, including Sonny Williams.
