Donald Allen Tatman

September 5, 1938 — July 24, 2021

Donald Tatman, 82, joined his Lord and Savior in heaven on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

Don was born on September 5, 1938 in Decatur, Georgia to the late Roy and Ruth Wesley Tatman and grew up there, graduating from Decatur High School in 1956. He found an early love of music and singing which led to becoming the soloist at First United Methodist of Atlanta where he met his first wife, Pam. He was soon called to military service and proudly served in the U. S. Army as a medic, seeing time in Southeast Asia as well as Europe. After those tours he returned to Warner Robins where he made his home. He spent his early career in advertising with the Daily Sun before finding his passion in helping others plan for their financial futures, first at First Federal Savings & Loan, then VALIC and finally retiring from Griggers Wealth Management. While he may not have been going to an office daily he was always ready to offer words of financial guidance, especially to young people. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he enjoyed sharing his love of music by leading the singing over the years. Following retirement he continued to enjoy fully all the things he had for years, especially watching sports—he was a loyal Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket fan even when others questioned such a choice—and the fall would find him in the woods indulging a love of hunting. He enjoyed traveling to many destinations with his wife Judith and friends from church. One consistent throughout his life was a love of theatre, especially musical theatre. He enjoyed traveling to shows and delighted in planning Saturday trips to Atlanta for family and friends with a show and dinner—but never without a stop at the Varsity for lunch first.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Miriam Ruppenicker, first wife Pam Crosby Tatman and great grandson Jameson Durden.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Judith L. Tatman; children Allen Tatman, Linda (Stacy) Durden, Laura (Brian)Trent, Sarah (Brian) Funderburke of Jefferson; grandchildren Matt (Jen) Tatman, Tyler (Katie) Durden, Colby Durden, Carter Durden, Parker Durden, Amelia Durden, Tanya Trent, Emily Trent, Ethan Trent, Caleb Funderburke, Hannah Funderburke and Luke Funderburke, and one great-grandson, Finley Durden.
