Donald Fredrick Bush

December 27, 1922 — May 2, 2017

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 2, 2017, Donald Bush, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

Don was born on December 27, 1922, to the late Arthur and Ada Bush in Akron, Ohio. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps for three years during World War II. Following World War II, he transferred to the Air National Guard where he worked full time until 1951. Don then began his career in civil service at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. In 1952, he transferred to Robins Air Force Base where he worked until his retirement as a Logistics Manager. During his career, Don received numerous awards for his many abilities and ingenuity in several projects. As the Chief of Reconnaissance/Surveillance Division, he received the "Award for Meritorious Civilian Service".

Don was an avid aviator, purchasing his first of many aircrafts in his 20's. Don was awarded the "Aviator of the Year" award from the City of Macon, Georgia in December 2016. He was a 50 year member of the Shriners and a 32nd degree Mason for 71 years, associated with the Willard, Ohio, Masonic Lodge. Don was also a member of The American Legion, Old Crows Association and the QB's.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Bush; siblings, Lawrence Bush; Ann Stanley; Betty Smith; Robert Bush and nephew, Charles Norris.

His memory will forever be treasured by his sons, Donald Charles Bush (Debbie) of Lilburn and James A. Bush (Anne) of Warner Robins. His beloved grandchildren, Vickie Michelle Smith and Dr. Clayton A. Smith of Macon; Whitney Phillips (Jimmy) of Fayetteville, TN; Lindsay Bush of Denver, CO; and great-grandchildren; Haley, Abby, Natalie and Cameron Smith, of Macon; McKinley, Cason, and Sawyer Phillips, of Fayetteville, TN; nieces, Debbie Shumer; Ruth Ann McGowan; Sue Stanley; Judith Bowie; nephews, David Stanley; Rick Stanley; Larry Smith; and Darrell Smith; as well as numerous close friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Don's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Donald Fredrick Bush to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
