Donald Leo Gilligan

June 15, 1925 — February 18, 2016

Donald Gilligan, 90, passed into the hands of his Lord on the morning of Thursday, February 18, 2016.

Donald was born on June 15, 1925 in Northfield, Minnesota to the late Edward and Emma Gilligan and was of the Catholic faith. With great pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army during World War II. In the European Conflict, he saw combat action on D-Day plus three, Ardennes, Rhineland and the last battle in the European Conflict. Mr. Gilligan was a lifelong resident of Northfield until 1973 when he relocated to Warner Robins, Georgia with Midland Glass, now Anchor Glass. He met his beautiful bride-to-be, Louise and later retired from Anchor Glass as a mold maker in 1987. He served as President of the American Flint Glass Workers Union. Donald loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, swimming, music, playing the organ, and taking photos of flowers. He will forever be remembered by family and friends as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his daughter, Delores Knight; and his sisters, Dorothy (Dot) Ebling and Kaye Albers.

His memory will ever be treasured by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary Louise Gilligan of Bonaire; children, Greg Gilligan (Lynn), Stephen Gilligan (Laura), Robin Gilligan (Linda), and Coleen Starr (Dale), all of Minnesota; Deborah Whatley (Tim) of Carrollton, Georgia and Pam Deese (Neil) of Gray, Georgia with 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; brother, James Gilligan (Anne) of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 20th from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 21st in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Following the service, Mr. Gilligan will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Mr. Gilligan to Heart of Georgia Hospice Inpatient Care Unit, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry, GA 31069.
