Donald Leo Sloat, Jr.

March 30, 1948 — September 20, 2022

Combat Vietnam Veteran and motorcycle enthusiast, Donald Leo Sloat, Jr., passed away at home on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the age of 74. Born on March 30, 1948 in Napoleon, OH, he was the son of the late Ruth and Donald Sloat, Sr.


In 1967, Donald proudly enlisted in the United States Army where he bravely served in the Vietnam War with artillery and combat until 1968. With honor, he received a Purple Heart for his sacrifice and continued serving his country with the Army for a total of nine years. Following his military career, Donald went on to dedicate 34 years to Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base before retiring.


He had a deep passion for riding motorcycles and enjoyed serving as a member of the USMVMC Georgia State Chapter for over 21 years. Donald was known to his fellow biker friends as “Sparky.” He was also a life member of the American Legion Post 172 in Warner Robins, a life member of the VFW #6605 on Corder Road in Warner Robins and a member of the Macon Vet Center in Macon. On top of his memberships in motorcycle and veteran organizations, Donald enjoyed spending time with friends in the ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out).


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jonathan Folds.


He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Arlene Sloat; children, Brian Sloat, Darlene Sloat, Roy Sloat, Sheila Sloat and Sherri Folds; grandchildren, Haley, Kaitlyn and Makayla Folds, Kinsley, Kasyn and Kamryn Sloat; five brothers and two sisters; and his beloved fur babies (dogs and goats).


Visitation with Donald’s family will be on Sunday, September 25, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2022, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Donald will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery following the service.
