Donald Ray Childress, 85, a resident of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville.
Born on April 14, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Donald was the son of the late Richard L. and Cassie Johnson Childress. In 1949, at the age of 13, Donald moved with his family to Warner Robins, Georgia. He graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1954. Immediately following high school, he went to work at Robins Air Force Base where he was a Program Analyst for many years until his retirement. Afterward, Donald served as the Resident Director for the Dismas House of Macon and enjoyed working at various antique shops around the Middle Georgia area.
A longtime faithful member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Vienna, Georgia, he enjoyed singing in the choir. He also loved gardening and baking cakes in his golden years. Donald was especially passionate about cooking and took delight in sharing his excellent meals with others.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his siblings: George Childress (Ann), Alice Winans (Clarence), and Tom Howard; as well as his sisters-in-law, Beulah and Berta Childress.
His memory will forever be treasured by his siblings: Franklin Childress, Richard Childress, and Doug Childress (Gail); sister-in-law, Jackie Howard; and nephew, Christopher Howard (Amber).
Visitation with Donald’s family will be Friday, December 31, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Magnolia Park Cemetery. The graveside service celebrating his life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Bobby Carpenter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Donald Ray Childress to the Smyrna Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 3101 Smyrna Church Road, Vienna, Georgia 31092.
