Doris Kelly Wicks

December 15, 1926 — September 6, 2022

Early on the morning of Tuesday, September 6, 2022, Doris Kelly Wicks, 95, joined her Lord and Savior in heaven.

Mrs. Wicks was born on December 15, 1926, in Dodge County, Georgia to the late Marvin and Nina Mae Fincher Kelly. After graduating from Chauncey High School in 1942, she began working at Headquarters, Army Air Force School at Spence Field in Moultrie, Georgia where she met her future husband. She and John W. Wicks married July 23, 1945, and relocated to Evart, Michigan before returning to Perry in 1950. She retired from Robins Air Force Base after 22 years as a computer technician and then assisted her husband in the family business, Wicks Heating and Air until they sold the business in 1997. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Central Baptist Church, but had previously served at Tharpe Memorial Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Perry. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, the American Legion, and Amaranth. A devoted student of God’s Word, she loved teaching the Bible, and in her spare time could be found sewing, solving crossword puzzles, and cheering for the Atlanta Braves. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, John W. Wicks; and her siblings, John Kelly, Dan Kelly, Roy Kelly, Vera Kelly Cook, and Glenda Kelly Baggerly.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Beverly Ann Wicks Hardy (C.Lee) of Perry, John Richard Wicks of Macon, and William Joseph Wicks of Sparta; her grandchildren, Christina L. King (Rocky), Matthew L. Hardy (Heather), Adam Wicks (Kaley), and Jason Wicks (Maria); great-grandchildren, Caeley Wilson, Wade Wicks, Sadie Wicks, Cameron and Hardy Carstarphen, and Aspen Hardy; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
