Dorothy Wright Gerard

February 25, 1938 — July 3, 2021

Surrounded by her family, Dorothy Wright Gerard of Kathleen passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021. She was 83 years old.

Born on February 25, 1938 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Clarence Wright and Frances Murphy Wright. She grew up in Clinton, Tennessee, where she graduated high school. Her first job was as a telephone operator but later, she attended Kennesaw Community College, receiving her associate’s degree in nursing. She spent several years as a medication nurse. Dorothy left the workforce to become a homemaker and pursued her love of sewing and painting. She adored her time at home with her family and was fiercely independent. She was a talented seamstress who also spent her time painting china and lamps. Passionate about all sports, Dorothy enjoyed attending her grandchildrens’ and great grandchildrens’ games as well as local hockey games. Dorothy was a proud member of the Booster Club for the Macon Whoopee.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert A. “Bob” Gerard, and her daughter, Deborah Gerard.

Dorothy’s memory will forever be cherished by her grandson, Gordon Polston and his wife, Jennifer Polston of Kathleen; great grandchildren, Jackson Polston and Amelia Polston; and brother, William Wright and his wife, Karen Wright of Stockbridge.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Andersonville National Cemetery. For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/.
