Earnestine Y. Martin

God called Sister Earnestine Y. Martin from labor, to rest on Wednesday, October 30, 2013.

She was born on June 27, 1933 to parents, Herman York and Anna Belle Sampson York. Sister Martin accepted Christ in her life at the age of seven at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. When she married and moved to Jacksonville, Florida, she united with the Greater St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend W. E. Neal where she was baptized. On moving back to Mobile, Sister Martin united with the Third Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Clarence Washington and later, Reverend R. L. Power where she served faithfully for twenty-three years.

Sister Martin moved her membership to Highpoint Baptist Church in June 2001, under the leadership of Dr. Lemuel Taylor, Jr. She was a member of the Revelation Sunday School Class and The Wednesday Day Bible Study Group. Sister Martin moved to Kathleen, Georgia in November of 2011 to be near her daughter. She was a resident of Summerhill Senior Living Community and was crowned Ms. Georgia Nursing Home Queen in 2013.

Sister Martin retired from U.S.A. Children's and Women's Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was also a foster grandparent.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Paulette Coleman, mother and father, one niece, and two nephews.

Sister Martin is survived by two devoted children: son, Conan Floyd McClinton (Aundrea) and daughter, Mrs. Colette Anna Martinez (Willie Sam); sister, Mrs. Celestine Hamilton; grandsons, Maurice Martinez and William Martinez (LaQuita), Eric, Erron, Errol, Elisha, and Ervin Coleman, Tonan Smith, and Gip Rice; granddaughter, Antoinette Smith; twelve great-grandchildren; nieces, Jackie Pace, Gwendolyn Hamilton and Theresa McPherson (Oliver); nephews, Michael Hamilton (Sherril) and Terrance Hamilton; her Highpoint Church Family; devoted friends, Sister Frances Stubbs, Sister Hazel Robinson, Sister Ernestine Pritchett, Sister Edderie Donley, and Sister Lillie Richardson.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Highpoint Baptist Church in Eight Mile, Alabama on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service.
