Ed L. "Dock" Smith

November 3, 1933 — October 8, 2005

Ed L. Smith, 71, died on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Regency Hospital of Central Georgia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Central Baptist Church. The Reverend William Barner and Reverend Sydney Odom will officiate. Burial will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Smith, a native of Prentiss, Miss. was the son of the late Thomas J. and Nola Long Smith. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, the Pete Joyner Sunday School class, and a Deacon.

He was retired from the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with four oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Medal, United States NCO Professional Education Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marks- manship ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, United Nations Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mr. Smith was a member of Air Force Sergeants Association, Disabled American Veterans, Uniformed Services, Disabled Retirees, American Association Retired People, National Association for Uniformed Services, the Retired Enlisted Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Christian Seniors Alliance, National Committee to Preserve Social Security, the Senior Coalition, and United We Stand.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Amelia Barner Smith, Warner Robins; his sons, Timothy Jay Smith, Athens; Steven Glenn Smith, Knoxville; his sisters, Louise Fletcher, Sylvester; Margaret Dunn, Moultrie; his brothers, John Smith, Long Beach, Mississippi; Thomas J. Smith, Jr., Macon; Charles H. Smith, Riverdale; Howard H, Smith, Albany; Joe Smith and Carl Smith, Moultrie; Henry P. Smith, Sylvester; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on October 11, 2005 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.
