Edna Grace Kennedy

Edna Grace Fitte Kennedy, 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the Houston Medical Center.

Born on June 12, 1931, Edna was the daughter of the late Richard and Hazel Van Ness Fitte. Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Edna graduated from Erasmus Hall High School. Then she began working for the Federal Reserve in the banking department where she met her husband, Patrick Kennedy. They were married in 1953, when she was 19 and started a family.

In 1960, the young couple moved upstate to Hyde Park, New York. Edna stayed home to care for their children until they grew up. She then started her career at Hudson River Psychiatric Center as a Therapy Aid. She served in the healthcare system for several years until her retirement.

After her retirement, she moved to Florida where she enjoyed being a part-time Sitter for geriatric patients. While in Florida, Edna met James Smith, a friend and companion for many years until his passing. She enjoyed playing cards, going on cruises, and going out to dance. Edna was a fantastic dancer and took several classes to learn many different dances. She was of the Catholic faith. Edna also loved her family unconditionally, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would travel multiple times throughout the year to visit and spend time with each of them. In 2015, Edna moved to Warner Robins to be closer to her family and lived out the rest of her years peacefully.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Kennedy; siblings, Richard LaFitte and Hazel Wayman; and companion, James Smith.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, Patrick Kennedy of Macon; Michael Kennedy (Cathy) of Santa Rosa, California; Karen Kennedy of Warner Robins; and Angus Kennedy (Mark Johnson) of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, Shannon Kennedy, Amy Arnold (Chris), Kimberly Kennedy, Michael Kennedy, Patrick Kennedy, Kyra Kennedy, Natalie Kennedy, Kerry Sandoval (Ruben), and Katie White (Brian); great-grandchildren, T.J. Kennedy, Kennedy Arnold , Mary Brantley Arnold , Klara Sandoval, Katherine Sandoval, Rosaline Sandoval, and Zarah White; and siblings, Frederick Fitte (Terry) of Mount Dora, Florida; and Connie Okdie (Joe) of Springhill, Florida.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2022, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Edna Grace Kennedy to Friends of Perry Animal Shelter (FOPAS), P.O. Box 2001, Perry, Georgia 31069.
