Warner Robins – Colonel Ed Murphy died on Friday, October 19, 2007.

Colonel Murphy was born in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts on September 10, 1936 to the late John E. and Irene C. Murphy. He received a BA degree from the University of Massachusetts, an MBA degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and a JD degree from Harvard Law School. He was a member of the Georgia Bar, the Massachusetts Bar, and admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Colonel Murphy served in the United States Air Force for twenty-seven years as a military lawyer. Among his assignments, he served as Staff Judge Advocate at Air Force Reserve Headquarters, Robins AFB, Deputy Commandant of the Air Force Judge Advocate General School, and a resident graduate of the Air War College, Maxwell AFB, Alabama. His assignments included tours in Hawaii, Germany, the Philippines, and Vietnam. He was posted for three years with the State Department as Legal Advisor to the American Ambassador in Canberra, Australia. His military awards include the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters.

After military retirement in 1989, Professor Emeritus Ed Murphy was a member of the faculty at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville where, for fourteen years, he taught courses on Constitutional law and the United States Supreme Court. He was a multiple year nominee in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.

Ed Murphy served on the Board of Directors of Hospice of Houston County for six years.
He was a Lay Reader and taught the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults at Our Lady of the Skies Chapel, Robins AFB.

Survivors include his loving wife, Marie L. Murphy; son, Andrew R. Murphy, Colonel USAF (Ret.), daughter-in-law Audrey, grandsons Andrew and Adam, Charleston, South Carolina; son, John E. Murphy, daughter-in-law Marina, granddaughter Maria, Suwanee; daughter, Renée M. Massey, Major USAF, son-in-law Fred, Major USAF, Warner Robins; brother Robert T. Murphy, Indian Orchard, Massachusetts and sister Patricia A. Woolf, Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Ed was a humble and kind person who did as much as he could with what he had. He loved his family much, and in return, was much loved.

A rosary will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2007, at Our Lady of Skies Chapel, Robins Air Force Base. Interment will be at Andersonville National Cemetery with full military honors. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society’s Atlanta Hope Lodge, 1552 Shoup Ct., Decatur, GA 30033.
