Elder Walter Senior

November 26, 1934 — September 15, 2019

Early on the morning of Sunday, September 15, 2019, Elder Walter Senior, a strong and resilient soldier of Christ, peacefully left his earthly body and joined his Lord and Savior in heaven. He was 84.

Elder Senior, known to many as “Grandaddy,” was born on November 26, 1934 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Alfred and Annie Collier Senior. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, earning a National Defense Ribbon before receiving an honorable discharge. Subsequent to his military service, he worked in the foundries in Cincinnati, Ohio and shipyards in Jacksonville, Florida. A skilled carpenter, he enjoyed exhibiting those talents making and upholstering furniture.

Elder Senior’s life was forever changed in 1984 when he came to know Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He developed a great zeal for God’s Word and read and studied it as often as he could. He was soon ordained as an Elder in the church. He served as a former Elder and Pastor in the First Born Church of the Living God in Florida. He later served as an Elder and a Presiding Elder on the former Jacksonville, Florida Diocese, Church of Christ Written in Heaven under the leadership of Dr. Bishop Gregory Davis. After relocating to Warner Robins, Georgia, he joined Greater New Hope Ministries, Church of Christ Written in Heaven under the leadership of Bishop Marshall L. Graham. He served faithfully in this ministry for twelve years until his death. Elder Senior also served as the Presider of the Noonday Prayer, a member of the clergy department, and as a prayer warrior. For the past twelve years, he had been a member of Greater New Hope Ministries. He loved people and was passionate about counseling others in their journey of faith. His door was always open to anyone who needed him. A gracious and generous soul, Elder Senior was the man who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He was preceded in death by his six sisters.

His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife of thirty-seven years, Barbara Washington Senior; his children, Randall Senior, Shannon Burns, Sean D. Senior (Rashidah) and Rodney Baldwin, Jr. (Iris); eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family members and friends.

The funeral service celebrating Elder Senior’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2019, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Bishop Marshall L. Graham officiating. Following the service, Elder Senior will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
