Elizabeth Battle Collins

Elizabeth Battle Collins died on April 8, 2013. The only child of Mr. and Mrs. Don Hudson Battle, she was born in Rome, Georgia on June 13, 1929. She was a graduate of Atlanta Girls High School in 1945. She attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Oglethorpe University, and her doctorate from the University of Georgia. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Jesse Thomas Collins in 2009, and by her son, Jesse Thomas Collins, Jr., in 2001.

Mrs. Collins served as a classroom teacher, principal and reading consultant in the Fulton County Board of Education. She was a member of honorary societies Phi Alpha Kappa, Lambda Sigma Delta, and Phi Kappa Phi. After retirement from Fulton County school system, she served as a volunteer at Warm Springs. She and her husband poured their hearts into the restoration of Zion Episcopal Church in Talbotton, Georgia.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mike Hamrick, of Perry, Georgia.

There will be a private graveside service for family only. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Heart of Georgia Inpatient Hospice, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry, Georgia 31069.
