Emory Clyde Wilson, Jr.

February 3, 1941 — April 19, 2016

Clyde Wilson went to be with the Lord on the evening of Tuesday, April 19, 2016. He was 75 years old.

Born in Fort Valley, Georgia, Clyde was the son of the late Emory Clyde Wilson, Sr. and Winona Pearson Wilson. He was raised on the family farm, known as Magnolia Farms, and was engaged in peach and pecan farming as a young man. Mr. Wilson graduated from Peach County High School in the Class of '59 and then pursued his passion for agriculture while attending the University of Georgia. There, he was a member of the Red Coat Marching Band and also the UGA swim team. Clyde graduated from UGA with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Technology. He was later enlisted as an officer in the United States Air Force during which time he bravely served his country in the Vietnam War. Toward the end of his military career, Clyde decided to expand his horizons, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. It was at this time that he accepted the position of Personnel Director at Mercer University. After several years at Mercer, he realized that his true calling was a career in agriculture and he went on to become a loan officer with the USDA. He retired in 2009.

Clyde loved worshipping God, was an avid lover of music, and most importantly, of his wife, Nancy, and their family. Even with all of his professional endeavors, he relentlessly made time for these things. Gifted with a wonderful voice, Mr. Wilson sang in church choirs at every church he attended in his lifetime including Byron United Methodist Church and Unity of Central Georgia Spiritual Life Center, most recently. He also enjoyed singing with a barbershop quartet and the Macon Little Theater, as a bass soloist with Mulberry United Methodist Church in Macon, and with the prestigious Atlanta Symphony Robert Shaw Chorale and the Chamber Chorus. Clyde was regularly called to sing at funerals and weddings. Those who knew him would agree that Clyde was a bit of a professional "hobbyist"; he enjoyed a myriad of things in his life. He was an accomplished artist, painting with oils and drawing with pen ink and pastels. His love of music was accompanied by a love of dancing. He raised rabbits. He was passionate in his pursuit of genealogy, taking road trips to unravel genealogical mysteries. He loved traveling, in general, with his family and delighted in seeing much of the world, even teaching English in China for a short time. Clyde Wilson made the most of his 75 years on this earth, and had a grand time while doing so.

In addition to his parents, Clyde was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Melody Morgan.

Among those left to treasure his memory are his devoted wife, Nancy A. Wilson of Byron; children, Mark P. Wilson of Byron and Ashley W. Morgan (David) of Bowersville, Georgia; grandchildren, Aaron Morgan (Kristen), Benjamin Morgan, Mary Clare Morgan, Abigail Morgan, Stephen Morgan, Hope Morgan, Nancy Day Morgan, Patrick Morgan, and Jonas Morgan; sister, Deena W. Anderson (Ernest) of Byron; nephew, Ernest Anderson III (Suzanne); niece, Laine A. West (Jeff); and a host of extended family and loving friends who will miss him.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Visitation with Clyde's family will be prior to the service on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Reverend Tyler Plaxico and the Reverend Beth Boilott will officiate. On Tuesday, April 26, Mr. Wilson will be laid to rest in Bowersville City Cemetery in Lavonia, Georgia.
