Evelyn "Evy" Mary Mcdonald

September 20, 1923 — January 16, 2017

Evelyn "Evy" Mary McDonald, 93, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on January 16, 2017 at the home of her son and family, in Seminole, Alabama. She was born on September 20, 1923 in Ayrshire, Iowa to Floyd and Mary (McCarville) Colwell.

Evy grew up in the Grant Township area of Iowa and graduated from Grant High School. She then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, working as a waitress for a short while before marrying William Murray McDonald in 1945 at Gunter Air Field, Alabama. They were happily married for 56 years. She was the wife of an Air Force pilot and accompanied her husband with their family to many military bases including Wheelus Air Force Base, Tripoli, Libya, Africa, and Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church all of her life, attending Sunday Mass and devoted to praying her Rosary. She enjoyed raising her children, spending time with her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren, working on crossword puzzles, growing house plants, dancing, singing and watching Atlanta Braves baseball games. She will forever be remembered as a loving, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Evy was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mary Colwell, Velma Colwell, sister, Dorothy Reynolds, sister, Lois Riles, brother, Joseph Colwell, daughter, Rebecca Ivey, son, William McDonald, granddaughter, Jennifer Ivey, granddaughter, Kimberly Perkins, and great-grandson, Michael Martz.

The loving memory of Evelyn will always be in the hearts of her remaining sons and daughters, Veronica Lowry (Richard) of Caledonia Mississippi, Patricia Power of Young Harris, Georgia, Donna Perkins (Frank) of Plattsburgh, New York, Dorothy Troyer (Michael) of Chickamauga, Georgia, Michael McDonald (Carolyn) of Louisville, Nebraska, James McDonald (Robin) of Dalton, Georgia, Jacqueline Ogden (William) of Dacula, Georgia, Robert McDonald (Julie) of Seminole, Alabama, Mary McDonald (Stanton White-friend) of Independence, Louisiana, and son-in-law, Patrick Ivey of Warner Robins, Georgia; her sisters, Patricia Powers of Duncombe, Iowa, and Rosemary Denclau of Humboldt, Iowa; her grandchildren, Shannon Lowry (Mo Zubair-friend), Billy Lowry (Ava), Christopher Power (Vanessa), Joseph Power (Karen), Robert Power (Robyn), Kelly Perkins, Kevin Perkins (Karissa), Michael Troyer (Jessica), Thomas Troyer (Beth), Kristyn Troyer (Phillip), Kaitlyn McDonald, Robert Coonts, Amanda Coonts, Emily Ogden, Rebecca Ogden, Abigail McDonald, Robert McDonald, Molly McDonald and Alex Brown; her great-grandchildren, Madison Lowry, Paige Lowry, Bella Lowry, Juliet Lowry, Scarlett Lowry, Olivia Power, Benicio Power, Luna Power, Luke Broadwell, Jacob Troyer, Matilda Troyer, William Troyer, Charles Troyer, Isabelle Troyer, Annalise Troyer, Loretta Troyer, Emma Martz and Owen Martz; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

There will be a Catholic Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 S. Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088 with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2410 Georgia Highway 127, Kathleen, Georgia 31047. Burial will follow at the Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia 31711.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in the name of Evelyn McDonald to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) or Maryknoll Missionaries (mklm.org), or Catholic Charities USA (catholiccharitiesusa.org).
