Florence Vardy "Flo" Sherrill

April 8, 1933 — December 1, 2018

On the morning of Saturday, December 1, 2018, Flo Sherrill went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven. She was 85 years old.

Born in Hickman’s Harbour, Newfoundland, Canada on April 8, 1933, Flo was the beautiful daughter of the late Heman and Miriam Coish Vardy. She grew up and attended school on Random Island in Hickman’s Harbour where she taught school after graduation. Flo later moved to St. John’s and then to Pepperell Air Force Base where she met the love of her life, AJ. From the moment he laid eyes on her, he said to himself, “that’s the girl for me.” They married on November 20, 1954 in the Air Force Base Chapel and lived happily ever after.

Flo and AJ were stationed at various Air Force bases before finally being stationed at Robins Air Force Base in 1963. She dedicated herself to being a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed working in the children’s department at Belk Matthew when her children were older.

Soon after moving to Warner Robins, Flo became a faithful member of Central Baptist Church. She was actively involved in the church as a member of the For His Glory Sunday School Class, and previously taught the sixth grade Sunday School Class, missions, and Vacation Bible School. Flo also enjoyed painting, reading, and gardening. She was an ardent animal lover, had a great sense of style, and though she was quiet, she was known for her witty sense of humor and constant encouragement.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Randy Sherrill; two sisters; and three brothers.

Flo’s memory will forever be treasured by her devoted husband of 64 years, AJ Sherrill of Bonaire; children, Don Sherrill (Jean) of Dacula, Janice Odom (Robert) of Marietta, and Kathy Vargas (Jeff) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Kristy Baughier, Brooks Keisler, Nicholas and Rachel Sherrill, Rob, Melissa, and Ashley Odom, Shane Sherrill and Krystal Sherrill; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Ron Vardy (Shirley) and Bob Vardy (Sol), both of Hickman’s Harbour, Newfoundland, Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with Reverend Stephen Byrd and Dr. Bob Dilks officiating. After the service, Flo will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Flo to your favorite charity.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mrs. Sherrill’s arrangements.
