Frances Poole Eidson

August 17, 1947 — January 25, 2022

Bonaire resident Frances Poole Eidson, known to her grandchildren as “Gee,” passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, GA on January 25, 2022, at the age of 74.

Frances was born in Memphis on August 17, 1947. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1965 and went on to earn multiple post-graduate degrees in the field of education. After a nearly 40-year career as a math teacher, she retired in 2008 from Tift County High School in Tifton, GA. Frances was a passionate educator who believed every student was capable of greatness. She was known to implement games, songs, and other fun activities into her instruction, even at the high school level, and was probably best known for her famous Math Jeopardy board, where students could earn candy bars for asking the right questions. She will also forever be known for popularizing a musical version of the quadratic equation, a feat pretty much no one else could have pulled off.

In 1971, Frances married Dan Eidson of Jacksonville, FL. Dan was a petty officer in the Navy when they married, and they were stationed together at Jacksonville Naval Air Station. They had two children together, Amy and Daniel. After leaving the Navy, Dan became a Baptist minister, and Frances followed him as his ministry led him to various churches across Tennessee and South Georgia. She was a faithful and devoted wife to Dan for 50 years, as they celebrated their Golden anniversary in 2021. Frances spent many years as an active member of the various churches pastored by her husband. She played piano, taught Sunday School classes, and led youth groups. She was a tireless giver, a person who was completely selfless in every aspect of her life.

In her personal life, Frances was fond of old movies, particularly westerns and musicals, and she often had a movie playing in the background as she did her routine chores at home. In 1995, she became a grandmother. Gee attended every ball game, karate tournament, concert, and every other imaginable event that she was able to get to. She was a “get on the floor and play with them” kind of grandma, the kind who doesn’t just supervise play, but participates in it, and she was fiercely devoted to—and beloved by—all of her grandchildren.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, John and Winnie Poole of Memphis, TN. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Dan; her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Blake Smith of York, PA; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Amy Eidson of Bonaire; seven beautiful grandchildren: Troy, Grace, Rachel, AJ, and Luke Smith; and Alli and Chase Eidson; and her brother and sister-in-law, John and Linda Poole of Auburn, AL.
