Franklin D. Adkins

January 30, 1940 — September 21, 2018

Franklin D. “PawPaw” Adkins, 78, peacefully transitioned at his home in Kathleen, Georgia on Friday, September 21, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Born January 30, 1940 in Slagle, West Virginia, Frank was the last of five children born to Moggie and Hazel Adkins. He moved with his family to Palatka, Florida in 1953 and worked at the family grocery store before courageously serving his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. After receiving his discharge, he was employed by Paper Pac in Tampa, Florida where he met his wife Christina (Pelletier) of Tampa and married only three months later. Following a career change to Continental Can that eventually relocated the family to Perry, Georgia in 1976, he retired from there in 1989 and then went to Robins Air Force Base where he held various jobs until 2013.

Frank was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he was very involved with many activities including the Hoyt Schofield Sunday School Class and serving the church as a greeter and representative in many community events. He also enjoyed time in the woods or on the water as an avid sportsman, was a member of the Perry Horsehoe Pitcher’s Club, a member of the Cherokee Rose Country Dance team, and loved spending time with friends and family around his pool table.

His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife of fifty-two years, Christina Adkins; his daughters, Staci Pierce (Michael) of Perry and Ann Hornaday (Tony Stinson) of Perry; his son, Frank Jr. (Becky) of Perry; and his sister, Twila Williamson of Hawthorne, Florida. He had seven grandchildren: Michael Stinson of Kathleen, Steven Hornaday of Bradenton, Florida, Shanna Gill (Daniel) of Warner Robins, Gabriele Pierce of Perry, Matthew Pierce of Perry, Bryant Adkins of Perry, and Jacob Hornaday of Perry; and one great-grandson, Zelle Gill of Warner Robins. Other survivors include many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Raymond and Norman, and a sister Kathleen.
