Fred Baker

March 8, 1926 — May 17, 2014

Never a man more honest, truthful and of integrity, Fred Baker, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014. Funeral Services and a celebration of his life will be held at McCullough Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, May 19, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

A lifelong resident of Middle Georgia, Fred was born March 8, 1926, in Jones County Georgia, the fifth of ten children. His humble upbringing during the Great Depression, in a home full of love and hard work, helped define the man Fred would become. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a caring, kind, giving soul, the very personification of a true Southern gentleman. Nothing made him happier than when he was with his family. He poured his life into the lives of his two daughters, granddaughter and great grandsons, never missing an opportunity to tell them how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. Fred served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II and his tours of duty included Japan, Hawaii and the Philippines. He retired from a respectable career in civil service at Robins Air Force Base after thirty-one years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, having been honored with a fifty year certificate.

Fred will be forever missed by his daughters, Jennifer Jackson (Charles) of Warner Robins, Connie Currie (Bill), Macon; granddaughter Sheri Turner (Joe) of Macon, step granddaughters, Lisa Bottoms (Steve) of Chipley, Florida, Billie Joe Heath (Roger) and Lisa Heath (Ricky) of Macon. His family provided for his every need during the last years of his life so he would be able to remain in the home he built and loved. He is also survived by great grandsons, Gabriel and Keegan Turner, brother, Mack Baker, of Anaheim California, Sister Hazel Gayton of San Clemente California and his pet cat, Boots. Fred was predeceased by this wife of sixty-three years, Edna Baker, who left her worldly place for Heaven on November 6, 2010. Their love for one another was unsurpassed and we find some peace in knowing they are together again for eternity. We prayed for our daddy's recovery but ultimate healing was for him to be in Heaven with our mother. Also, predeceased parents Thomas and Jennie Baker, brothers, Charles Baker, Robert Baker, Schiller Baker, Tommy Baker and Harold Baker, sisters Alice Meadival, Marie Baker and step grandson, Derrick Jackson.

Fred was the strongest link of his family chain, and will remain in the hearts of his loved ones forever. He squeezed every drop out of life and had a zest that belied his age. He could not have been loved more by those that knew him. The family gives its deepest appreciation to his faithful caregivers, Alan Taylor and Gary Taylor.

Flowers will be appreciated; however, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or Heart of Georgia Hospice 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
