Gail Norma Benberry

May 14, 1937 — February 26, 2023

On the morning of Sunday, February 26, 2023, we lost our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and Evangelist, Gail Norma Benberry, at the age of 85. She was born in Indianapolis, IN on May 14, 1937 to the late Dexter and Florence Morton-Stigger.

Kind and loving in her disposition, Gail was a well-loved daycare provider who kept countless children for over 30 years; it was apparent that she absolutely adored children as she cared for each one of them as one of her own grandbabies. Gail’s desire for everyone to be happy exuded in everything she did, however, she was a quiet force to be reckoned with. She had a permanent smile upon her face and possessed a contagious laugh. In addition, she was steadfast in her faith of God and prayed for anyone and everyone; there was no one in her life that she didn’t pray over at one point in time.

When she wasn’t rearing children, you could find Gail doing word searches or making her delicious lemon glazed cake for everyone to enjoy. She was truly the image of a “lady” who was prim and proper from head to toe, always dressed to a “T.” Gail’s legacy of faith and strength will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Benberry; and her siblings, Anna Mae, Alice, Louise Dinkins, Margaret O’Neal, Dorothy Stigger Tucker, Vanessa Stigger Foster, Reba June Stigger, Janet Stigger Hamilton, Charlotte Marie Stigger, Forest Stigger and Donald Stigger, Sr.

She is survived by her loving children, Michael L. Stigger (Mely), Terrence McEachin (Ivan), Karen Turnley, Mark Benberry (Kaye), Tia Jackson, Tim Benberry (Bonnie) and Toma Martin (Marcellus); grandchildren, Anna-Lisa Stigger, Rev. Tyrune Dorsey, Titus Turnley, Chimeré Dixon, Danielle Smith, Andrea Hodges, Lamonté Benberry, Kevin Benberry, Kaycia Benberry, Chiara Benberry, Tyhia Jackson, Jeremy Jackson, Brandon Jackson, Tavon Benberry, Brittney Benberry, Isaiah Benberry, Carrington Parran, Marion Johnson, Michael Freeman, Kassidy Freeman, Kimberly Johnson and Tiffany LaMott; and great-grandchildren, Tyrune D. Dorsey II, Nahallie Turnley, Taylor Turnley, Tyas Turnley, Jase Dixon, Kade Dixon, Destin Smith, Dakota Smith, Dayton Smith, Brys Freeman, Carter Hodges, Brooklyn Hodges, Zoi Chrisler, Jermani Jackson, Sarai Jackson, Jodeci Jackson, Imala Jackson, Lanaya Benberry, Myla Minor, Micah Minor, Tristan-Allen Freeman, Christopher Johnson and Michael McEachin.
