Gene H. Bauer

Mrs. Gene H. Bauer was called to the Lord on the morning of Monday, October 8, 2018. She was 90 years old.

Gene was born on September 27, 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Robert Stribling Hawkins and Gene Thomas Wood. She graduated from St. Mary’s Episcopal School for Girls and obtained her associate degree in Lab Technology from the University of Tennessee. She worked as a lab technician for a number of years before becoming a full-time stay at home mother to her five children. Gene was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Warner Robins where she served many years as the church pianist and organist, prepared luncheons for the WR Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Christian Women’s Fellowship. In her later years, she was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church. There she was a member of the Hope Sunday School class, Chancel Choir, Prime Timers, Joyful Noise, and Joyce Payne Ministries. Gene also enjoyed volunteering with the American Red Cross and American Cancer Society, where she was a volunteer coordinator and served on the board in 1982. She is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, Daughters of the American Revolution (Sukey Hart and Oliver Morton chapters) and United Daughters of the Confederacy (Clinton C. Duncan Chapter).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard F. Bauer, Sr.

Gene’s memory will forever be treasured by her loving children, Richard F. Bauer, Jr. (Margie) of Marietta, Robert H. Bauer (Rhonda) of Anderson, South Carolina, Lyn Bauer Williams (Johnny) of Gray, George Thomas Bauer (Mary Beth) of Nashville, Tennessee, and William E. Bauer (Gwen) of Perry; grandchildren, Katherine Bauer Dickerson (Weston), Laura Bauer Emerick (Brent), Amanda Bauer Orr (Cliff), Annie Bauer Jones (Robert), Michael Richard Bauer (Kaitlyn, fiancée), Ciara Bingham Connor (Patrick), Hannah Rose Bauer, Matthew John Williams (Jessica), Margret Lyn Williams, Marcus Stribling Bauer (Shelbie), and Joseph Wood Bauer; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held on Sunday at Magnolia Park Cemetery for the family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Rev. Joyce Payne officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the Farmhouse at McCullough.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in memory of Gene to Trinity United Methodist Church Music Program, 129 S. Houston Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088 or to your favorite charity.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mrs. Bauer’s arrangements.
