Gene Wall

December 24, 1929 — February 11, 2011

Mr. Gene Wall of Marshallville, Georgia, previously a long-term resident of Warner Robins, died Friday, February 11th of pneumonia. He was 81 years old.

Mr. Wall was born, along with his twin brother Joe, on Christmas Eve, 1929 on a farm in Jackson County, Georgia. He was the son of Albert Glenn and Ettie Whitehead Wall, whose family eventually grew to nine children. Mr. Wall moved with his family to Warner Robins in 1943, where he was graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1949. After the untimely death of his father in 1953, Mr. Wall, along with his brother Joe, took over their father's service station on First Street, across the street from Robins Air Force Base. From such humble beginnings, the Wall brothers, with help from their wives, their sisters Hilda Wall Mitchell and Ann Wall Stone (and her husband Buddy Stone), and brothers Doug and James Wall, built Wall Tire Service Inc. and Wall Tire Distributors Inc., a chain of tire stores headquartered in Warner Robins that eventually operated 28 retail stores and 7 wholesale tire warehouses in Georgia and Alabama. The Wall brothers sold their business in 1987, whereupon Mr. Wall became a full-time farmer, finally retiring in 1998.

Mr. Wall was a former Warner Robins City Councilman and Mayor pro tem; a commissioner on the Houston County Board of Commissioners; a member of the board of the Houston County Hospital Authority; past president of the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce; a lifetime member of the Optimists Club; a director for SunTrust Bank Middle Georgia; board member of the Georgia Tire Dealers Association, among numerous other organizations he served during his long career. Mr. Wall was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason (Valley of Macon), Al Sihah Shriner (A.A.O.N.M.S of Macon), and a faithful life-long member of the United Methodist Church, most recently at Marshallville UMC. He was a business and civic leader whose efforts did so much to make Warner Robins the thriving city it is today.

Mr. Wall was married to the late Geraldine Monfort Wall, who died on March 2, 2003. He is survived by their sons, Glenn Monfort Wall (Vicci) of Suwanee, Georgia; William Stanley Wall (Charolette) of Kathleen, Georgia; and Gerald Kevin Wall (Jeanette) of Warner Robins, Georgia. He leaves 7 beloved grandchildren: Jessica Wall Masters, Rachel Elyse Wall, Amy Danielle Wall, Hillary Rae Wall, twins Jackson Payne and Frank Pierce Wall, and Jonah Kevin Wall; and one great-grandchild, Isabella Rae Masters. He is also survived by his siblings, Joe Wall, Susan Wall Lester, James H. Wall, and Jane Wall Stuart. He was predeceased by his siblings Doris Wall Lay, John Glendon Wall, Charles Douglas Wall, Hilda Wall Mitchell, and Ann Wall Stone.
